The project LIVES focuses on reducing plastic waste in the river Meuse. It aims to reduce plastic waste by the end of the project period. LIVES supports environmentally friendly cross-border cooperation by bringing together ten project partners throughout the Euregion Meuse-Rhine.
The implementation of the project will revolve around an extensive analysis of the current litter situation in the river, measures against waste production, including awareness-raising campaigns and the installation of five different types of plastic-traps, as well as institutional arrangements to ensure the sustainability of the project. While several initiatives already exist at the local level, the LIVES project is looking at a more coherent cross-border approach, taking into consideration the wider impact that litter has on the river Meuse.
